Part 1 was back in May when Search Generative Experience, SGE, was beginning to roll out. If I want to be pedantic, I could say the message in this group started a lot earlier than that as I've actually been talking about this for over a year. I also wrote about it in my
yearly annual trends blog for you. :) So far I've not been far off the mark with my advice, even without the luxury of a crystal ball!
You'll probably have noticed on some of your recent searches that a large section is beginning to appear at the top of the page called AI Overview? Thats SGE coming into effect.
I'm not going to writeup the entire video in this description as I'd rather you watch it, but I will make one point here so if you do decide to skip the video, you still get this very important message.
Soundbite: "You will more than likely lose some webiste traffic this year". Some say this could be as much as 20-30%. No one really knows. If you go to your bosses, your board, your shareholders and tell them you're getting 20% less traffic, they're not going to be happy. With this series and videos like it, I'm trying to give you the insight and knowledge you need to get ahead of this. If Ai overviews means your old SEO work is no longer working then don't fire your SEO company, you need them more than ever right now to navigate this new world. Will GEO (generative engine optimisation) become a thing? I think so probably.
There are a couple of tips in this video and as I release more videos on the topic I'll include more so if this is important to you, make sure you keep an eye out for those.

Your Action(s):I think this is quite simple. Get ahead of the internal messaging about likely traffic drops coming your way this year.
Use the video, the links I've sent you and anything else you can get your hands on to pull together facts and figures for the people you report to.
What's the worst that can happen if you adopt this strategy? You don't lose traffic and everyone is happy? I know I'd prefer to be sending the right messages as soon as possible.
